Entrepreneurship & Lean Startups / Random Musings

Coffee Keeps Me Awake, Passion Keeps Me Alive

And so, the title of this post goes to the book of my own quotable quotes. Came up with it in a particularly memorable UBER ride where my driver initated conversation. What ensued was a mini coaching sesssion of sorts where I just learn to lean into my strength of being a generally optimistic and hopeful person.

I’ve been speaking about being AGILE (this is an acronym, of course), and adopting the startup mindset in whatever setting you may be in. Soon I’ll be turning the art of being AGILE into an article, and I am confident of acting on it cause I’ve been feeling very write-y of late.

I just feel like sharing my thoughts on being courageous and fearlessĀ at this very moment – to gain the understanding that you can have all the great ideas in the world, but all ideas are free until you decide to act on them.

I’m kinda done with people telling me their “If only’s”… if only I didn’t have such an all-consuming full-time job, if only I didn’t have so many commitments, etc. Many people get stuck in the strata of having too much to lose, but too little to feel like they have accomplished something.

The thing is: if you truly have a passion for something, you’re going to find time to get it done. I remember when I was juggling both my full-time job in the bank, as well as my first fashion e-commerce startup. Work takes up 16 hours, and I’d be working away on my business from 11:00PM to 3:00AM. I’d be sleeping 3 to 4 hours everyday, but darn, I felt so alive!

You’d be amazed at just how strong the human spirit is, if you’re willing to just stretch yours and put it to the test. So push the negative thoughts (by this I mean the over-thinking and amplification of potential challenges) and excuses aside, and just work on one of those amazing ideas that’s running at the back of your mind all the time. Act on it during your spare time, and see what results it brings you.

I will always remember what my Co-Founder, Anirban once said to me: We are people who have chosen the alternative path in life. It is going to be challenging, and people are going to question you. But honestly, would you have wanted it any other way?

True enough, I wouldn’t live my life any other way. And the fun is about positioning your fears into challenges that can be overcomed. And so, mazel tov!
