Creating Innovative, High-Fashion Wearable Devices

Imagine what happens when Luxottica, a leader in the design, manufacture, distribution and sales of premium, luxury and sports eyewear like Ray-Ban, Oakley, Vogue Eyewear, Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana and Starck Eyes, teams up with Google (that needs no introduction) to design, develop and distribute a new breed of eyewear for Glass. How exciting is that?

It makes good sense for a strategic partnership between Luxottica and Google to work together to create innovative, iconic wearable devices. Especially with the increasing popularity of wearable devices, it makes perfect sense to take it a step further by merging fashion with function. Through this partnership, the two corporations will establish an expert team devoted solely to working on the design, development, tooling and engineering of Glass products, such that it meets the needs of consumers that are seeking high-fashion, lifestyle and innovative technology.

What’s interesting to note is that Ray-Ban and Oakley have a 10-year heritage in wearable technology, and they will be a part of the collaboration. What will keep you on your toes is that details of the new products emerging from this collaboration will only be disclosed at a later date. They do reveal, however, that the first collection will see the combination of high-end technology with avant-garde design that promises to offer the best in style, quality and performance.

We live in a world where technological innovation has dramatically changed the way in which we communicate and interact in everything that we do. More importantly, we have come to a point where we now have both a technology push and a consumer pull for wearable technology products and applications… We believe it is high time to combine the unique expertise, deep knowledge and quality of our Group with the cutting edge technology expertise of Google and give birth to a new generation of revolutionary devices. – Andrea Guerra, CEO of Luxottica Group.

Well, for us as consumers, this is definitely a piece of good news. This new generation of products will see a dramatic step forward in the ever-progressing wearable technology space, and elevate the consumer experience by providing that added layer of sophistication and elegance.
