As a Singaporean, you’re probably well-acquainted with the long queues at every Ben & Jerry’s Free Cone Day. But we’ll queue anyway, and we still feel slightly bummed at missing out on free ice cream. Fret not, because Carousell (one of our favourite local startups out there) is bringing Free Ice Cream Day to one polytechnic! Starting from 21 April – today! – students will compete against the other four polytechnics to get the most participants in the Carousell Ice Cream Wars.

The rules are simply enough: Simply head to Carousell Ice Cream Wars and verify your school email address with your Carousell account. And what can the winning school of the Free Ice Cream Day expect? Thousands of Jwel ice cream, a line of ice-cream inspired by top-notch local chefs, to celebrate their victory! If you’re lucky enough to be in one of the five local polytechnics, all you need to do is rally your schoolmates, both new and returning students, so that your school has the most participants.

Not only will you have a sweet treat to celebrate the victory, but we are all suckers for competitions and activities that allow us to show some school pride from time to time. And being crowned Ice Cream Wars Champion seems like a pretty cool title. The champions of Free Ice Cream Day will receive thousands of premium Jwel Ice Cream sponsored by F&N Creameries delivered to their campus and distributed on the house. What better way to start the new school semester? Enjoying an icy cool treat after classes may also be a pretty cool way to chat up the schoolmate that you’ve got your eyes on.

Being students once ourselves, we do miss hanging out with friends after a long day of lessons. We believe that a competition like this will bond schoolmates closer together and instill a sense of camaraderie in them by coming together to win this for their school. Also, the new school semester brings along the season for students to buy and sell textbooks. Carousell provides the simplest selling experience, and the textbooks vertical is one that is close to our hearts.
